    Lesson (30min)

    Kimura Trap Control

    1. Start in kimura trap
    2. Uke tries to get up to top position
    3. Keep your bottom arm straight and pushing uke’s elbow upwards
      • Don’t let uke’s elbow touch the mat, especially on the space inside your figure four grip
      • If uke does get up to their knees, you may still be able to return them to the mat by lifting their elbow

    Kimura Trap to Back Control

    1. Continue from kimura trap with uke trying to get up
    2. Slide your bottom knee under uke’s body
    3. Throw in your top hook and grip behind uke’s armpit on the far side
    4. Use your other arm to post on the mat and build up height, stopping uke from turning into you
      • Come up to your hand if possible, bringing your head above uke’s head
    5. Finish in back control with two hooks in and a seatbelt grip

    Kimura Trap to Armbar

    1. Continue from kimura trap with uke trying to get up
    2. Slide your bottom knee under uke’s body
    3. Throw your top foot over uke’s shoulder and return their back to the mat
    4. Bring both legs across uke’s upper body to pin them in the armbar position
      • For a more controlling pin, thread your lower leg under your top ankle (¾ juji-gatame)
    5. Bridge your hips into the elbow joint of uke’s arm to finish the armbar

    Kimura Trap to Cross Kimura

    1. Start in kimura trap
    2. Bring your top knee over uke’s head to stop them from getting up
    3. Post your head on the mat and tripod up, putting your knee over uke’s wrist
    4. Roll through and establish the cross kimura position (similar to armbar position)
      • Roll sideways slowly to give uke time to follow the movement, avoiding injury
      • You can switch to a trap triangle control around uke’s head and arm to prevent them from rolling forwards and escaping
    5. Immobilise uke’s wrist next to their shoulder blade and apply a pulling force on the elbow to finish the kimura
