Slip, Counter & Elevator Sweep

Warm Up – 5min

  • Line Drills
  • 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
  • Shaddow Sparring

Striking Development Lesson  – 10min:

  • Basic Footwork: Stance & Guard (Don Madge)
  • Slip & Counter Straight Punches (Richie Quan)
      • Different from video: I prefer people to turn more at the waist and shoulder with very little dip
      • Essential Detail: Don’t hinge at the waist, turn the hips and shoulders
      • Most Common Mistake: Dropping the guard
      • Drill Orders: Teach the skill as a shadow drill, then finish as a partner drill

BJJ Development Lesson  – 10min:

Elevator Sweep

  • Standard Variation
    • Indicator: Bully posts one leg to drive their weight forward and punch you.
    • Essential Detail: Effective body angle.
    • Most Common Mistake: Insufficient hook elevation and arm reach to the sky.
    • Safety Tip: Hold your weight off the child to avoid crushing their body.
    • ‘Transfer Teaching Tip: Make the leg chop easy at first, then get heavier and heavier with time.

Partne Drills – 5min:

  • Partners exchange combos using gloves & shinnies

Sparring – 10min:

  • 2 x 2min Rounds, Clinch & Knee
  • 2 x 2min Rounds, Positional Escape
