Switch Round Kick & Standing Armbar

Warm Up – 5min

  • 2min Skipping
  • 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
  • Punch Drill

Striking Development Lesson  – 10min:

  • Basic Footwork: Mirror Drill (Stephen Whitter)
  • Kick – Switch Round Kick (Don Madge)
    • Prerequisite: Lesson 23, You should watch this lesson again before starting on this lesson. Also you should go over the main points of that lesson before teaching this lesson. If you have a new student you may need to teach them lesson 23 while you teach the others this lesson.
    • Essential Detail: The switch kick is used when just inside the pocket, not from long range
    • Important Detail:
    • Most Common Mistake: Jumping when switching the feet, try to keep your head at the same level
    • Drill Orders: (With shin guards and gloves on) Start with the step though kick from lesson 23, then as a solo drill practice just the switch, then add a high knee, then as a partner drill add the kick and catch it on your gloves.
    • Note: The switch can also be used with Push Kicks & Knees

BJJ Development Lesson  – 10min

  • Standing Armbar – Basic Application
    • Indicator: Bully pushes or grabs you with an extended arm.
    • Essential Detail: Effective pull and cutoff step.
    • Most Common Mistake: Turning to the wrong side during the pull.
    • Safety Tip: Apply pressure very slowly to avoid injury.
    • Transfer Teaching Tip: Make the initial arm pull more and more challenging each time.

Partner Combos – 5min:

  • Partners exchange combos using gloves & shinnies

Sparring – 10min:

  • 2 x 2min Rounds, Clinch & Knee
  • 2 x 2min Rounds, Positional Escape
