Lesson 21
Punches To Knees and Standing Headlock Defence
Warm Up – 5min
- Line Drills
- 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
- Punch Drill
Striking Development Lesson – 10min:
- Basic Footwork: Mirror Drill (Stephen Whittier)
- Knee – Punches To Knees (Duane Ludwig)
- Note:
- I use the names of the strikes rather than a numbered system, Duane uses a numbered system that is very specific to his Bang Muay Thai system.
- I reach across to my partners opposite shoulder with the same hand of the knee I am throwing, this is a good way to protect your chin, and also you can pull them in if desired.
- Essential Detail: Throw the opposite knee to the last punch
- Most Common Mistake: Dropping hands when doing the knee
- Drill Orders: Warm up with the walking knee drill. Practice with gloves rather than Thai Pads, use a single punch followed by a single knee, then progress into combos that finish with the opposite knee.
- Note:
BJJ Development Lesson – 10min
- Standing Headlock Defence
- Indicator: Bully catches you in a headlock while standing.
- Essential Detail: Step, sit, and spin in one fluid motion.
- Most Common Mistake: Incorrect sitting position and bending the back leg.
- Safety Tip: Sit and turn in a way that doesn’t crush the child’s body.
- Transfer Teaching Tip: Use a strategic sit to help the child until they build their confidence.
