Jab & Cross / Trap & Roll Escape
Warm Up – 5min
- Line Drills
- 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
- Punch Drill
Striking Development Lesson – 10min:
- Basic Footwork: Stance & Guard (Don Madge)
- Straight Jab, Cross (Don Madge)
- Different from video:
- Use gloves to catch partners punches
- Move both feet when taking a full step in
- It is ok to leave back foot in place on a 1/2 step if you are moving straight back
- Essential Detail: Hit with the 1st two knuckles
- Most Common Mistake: Dropping hands on the return of the punch, straight out straight back
- Partner Reminder: Give slight push to give feed back when hitting gloves
- Safety Tip: Don’t throw hard, fast or crazy punches control and technique is key
- Drill Orders: Start each skill as a shadow skill then a partner drill

BJJ Development Lesson – 10min:
Trap & Roll Escape, is a simple, reliable way to remove the Bully from atop of you.
- Shark Bite / Punch Block
- Indicator: Bully is mounted with hands on the ground or sits up to throw punches at your face.
- Essential Detail: Trapping the arm and the leg on the same side.
- Most Common Mistake: Not bridging the hips high enough.
- Safety Tip: Be careful not to crush the child’s wrist with your body during the rollover.
- Teaching Tip: Strengthen the child’s bridge by making yourself heavier with each successful rep.
- Snake Bite / Strangle
- Indicator: The bully is trying to strangle you with both hands.
- Essential Detail: Quick and solid control of one arm.
- Most Common Mistake: Releasing the arm during the roll.
- Teaching Tip: Once the steps are learned try to post your hand out to verify tightness.
- Headlock Variation
- Indicator: Bully establishes a mounted headlock and tries to pin you.
- Essential Detail: Effective bridge and reach with the hugging arm.
- Most Common Mistake: Failure to remove the back hook prior to roll.
- Safety Tip: Do not rest too much weigh on the child.
- Transfer Teaching Tip: Make yourself heavier during each repetition.
Noodle Work – 5min:
- 1min Rounds they will hold for each other. (Instructors need to teach them how to hold)
Sparring – 10min:
- 2 x 2min Rounds, General Striking (no head contact)
- 2 x 2min Rounds, General BJJ
