Lesson 4 – Take The Back

Position:

Mount

Overview:

The mount is unquestionably the best place to be in a fight. Once you achieve the mount you must focus all your efforts on maintaining the position. Nine times out of ten, the bully will instantly roll to their knees out of fear of punches. In the Gracie Game course, you learned how to Take the Back (Crazy Horse). Now we will teach you what to do if the bully begins to slip away from your back mount control.

Technical Slices:

Game

Remount Technique

  • Indicator: Bully attempts to escape the back mount.
  • Essential Detail: Effective hook transfer to full mount and constant closeness.
  • Most Common Mistake: Waiting too long to reestablish the mount.
  • Safety Tip: Allow the child’s leg to slide under your hips without crushing it.
  • Transfer Teaching Tip: Use your hands to make the transfer to mount more challenging each time.

Bully Battle

  • Practice the Remount Technique in combination with all of the previously learned techniques at various intensity levels. Give special emphasis to the Headlock Variation of the Trap and Roll Escape (Lesson 1).

Final Thoughts

  • If you achieve the back mount, and your hooks are tight, you should be able to get the bully to surrender. If they are going crazy though and your hooks begin to slip, use the Remount Technique to get on top and maintain control of the situation.
