Round Kick Rear Leg & Headlock Escape #2
Warm Up – 5min
- Line Drills
- 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
- Kick Drill
Striking Development Lesson – 10min:
- Basic Footwork: Circle & L Step (Stephen Whitter)
- Round Kick Rear leg (Richie Quan & Don Madge)
- Essential Detail: Coming up onto the ball of the support foot and allowing the foot to rotate
- Most Common Mistake: Hinging and the waist, you must keep your head and chest up
- Safety Tip: Use Shin Guards and Gloves
- Drill Orders:
- Start with the body kick first
- Practice the kick as a partner drill where the partner catches the kick and the fighter does 3 x hip rotations and then resets, change sides and repeat
- Then practice throwing the body kick onto the Gloves
- If the students can kick to the body progress to the head kick
- Practice the Body and Head kick on the Thai pads
BJJ Development Lesson – 10min
- Headlock Escape – Standard Leg Hook Escape
- Indicator: Bully establishes a tight headlock and neutralises Headlock Escape 1.
- Essential Detail: Sideways body position and effective inside elbow tuck.
- Most Common Mistake: Trying to use a pull-up rather than push-up of the back foot.
- Safety Tip: Insert leg hook carefully to avoid kicking your partner in the groin
- Transfer Teaching Tip: Make the shoulder getup more and more challenging each time.
Thai Pads – 5min:
- 1min Rounds they will hold for each other. (Instructors need to teach them how to hold)
Sparring – 10min:
- 2 x 2min Rounds, Clinch & Knee
- 2 x 2min Rounds, Positional Escape
