Catch / Counter Round Kick & Headlock Frame Escape
Warm Up – 5min
- Line Drills
- 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
- Kick Drill
Striking Development Lesson – 10min:
- Basic Footwork: Mirror (Stephen Whittier)
- Catch & Counter Round Kick to The Body (Liam Harrison)
- Note: This is a simple version that should be good for kids, I do teach it differently to adults.
- Different From Video: Do not kick you partner across the back, kick the back of the legs or side of the legs or body.
- Essential Detail: Move away from the kick to reduce the power of the kick
- Most Common Mistake: Dropping the other hand and not protecting your head
- Partner Reminder: Throw the kick at a pace you partner can react and build good technique
- Safety Tip: Don’t throw hard when learning
- Drill Orders: Practice catching the kick first, then add the counter
BJJ Development Lesson – 10min:
- Headlock Frame Escape
- Indicator: Bully establishes a headlock from the side mount.
- Essential Detail: Sideways body position and quick frame entry.
- Most Common Mistake: Insufficient hip scoots or weak neck chop with the leg.
- Safety Tip: Use your back hand to block the child’s foot from smashing your nose.
- Transfer Teaching Tip: Make your head heavier and heavier each time.
Thai Pads – 5min:
- 1min Rounds they will hold for each other. (Instructors need to teach them how to hold)
Sparring – 10min:
- 2 x 2min Rounds, Kick & Clinch
- 2 x 2min Rounds, Back Position Wins
