Lesson 11

Push Kick Defence & Elbow Escape Mount

Warm Up – 5min

  • Line Drills
  • 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
  • Punch & Kick Drill

Striking Development Lesson  – 10min:

  • Basic Footwork: Circle & L-Step (Stephen Whittier)
  • Landing knee strikes from the clinch (Don Madge)
    • From the 50/50 Clinch or Thai Plum.
    • Essential Detail: Create space, step back and pull their head in as you knee
    • Most Common Mistake: Not having good control of the opponent
    • Drill Orders: Teach from the 50/50 Clinch and then from the Thai Plum, practice moving around Pummelling and transitioning into the Thai Plum with knee strikes from both positions.

BJJ Development Lesson  – 15min:

Body Fold Takedown

  • Indicator: Bully attempts to throw punches after you establish the clinch.
  • Essential Detail: Tight clinch and slight body pickup prior to the fold.
  • Most Common Mistake: Folding with only the arms instead of the whole body.
  • Safety Tip: Release the clinch and post hands out before hitting the ground
  • Transfer Teaching Tip: Make your body stiffer to challenge the fold as the child gets better.

Focus Pads- 5min:

  • 1min Rounds they will hold for each other. (Instructors need to teach them how to hold)

Sparring – 10min:

  • 2 x 2min Rounds, General Striking (no head contact)
  • 2 x 2min Rounds, General BJJ
