Lesson 7
Push Kick / Teep & Straight Armlock Mount
Warm Up – 5min
- Line Drills
- 10 Push Ups, Sit Ups, Squats
- Punch & Kick Drill
Striking Development Lesson – 10min:
- Basic Footwork: Mirror Drill (Stephen Whittier)
- Lead, Rear & Switch Front Kick / Teep (Don Madge) & (Stephen Whittier )
- Different from video: Always keep both hands up, protecting the head is better than the small amount of extra power you get from pumping a hand or both hands.
- I teach adults both hands up, but it becomes a personal choice
- For kids I think both hands up is the best way to go.
- Some people teach to pump one or both hand out instead of down.
- Essential Detail: Hit with the ball of the foot, toes pulled back.
- Most Common Mistake: Not lifting the knee high enough
- Drill Orders: Teach each the skill as a shadow drill, then use the wall, finish as a partner drill

BJJ Development Lesson – 10min:
Straight Armlock Mount
- Side Variation
- Indicator: Bully turns sideways underneath you but does not roll to their knees.
- Essential Detail: Effective transition to the modified mount.
- Most Common Mistake: Committing to the armlock too soon.
- Safety Tip: Protect your face so the child doesn’t kick your nose during the spin.
- Transfer Teaching Tip: Make the arm extension process more challenging each time.
Focus Pads – 5min:
- 1min Rounds they will hold for each other. (Instructors need to teach them how to hold)
Sparring – 10min:
- 1 x 2min Rounds, Hands Only
- 2 x 2min Rounds, Kicks Only
- 2 x 2min Rounds, BJJ Pass or Sweep
